Globe: Artists as Revitalizers

The Boston Globe recently published an article
about a trend in Massachusetts, promoted by LINC-sponsored ArtistLink,
to use affordable artist housing to revitalize downtown areas in
formerly industrial cities.

Expensive rents have driven artists out of urban areas, like Boston, to formerly-industrial and suburban communities, like Lowel or Chelsea. But this movement has not only benefitted artists, by offering new communities where they can live, work, and exchange ideas, but also enhanced these areas by creating a local arts and culture scene.
