Artists in a Global Society is a research and development project initiated and developed by Leveraging Investments in Creativity (LINC). The project is directed towards fostering and promoting the contributions of artists to American and global cultural life, economic activity, and education. The project is led in partnership with LINC’s Artist Council.

LINC believes that artists have always been expressive agents of culture. LINC also believes that artists and their work are frequently undervalued, that their many roles are little understood and that, as a result, they are often positioned at the margins of society. Within this context, LINC’s goal is to enhance the visibility and promote the value of artists, not just as makers of art, but also as public intellectuals uniquely positioned to prompt public debate and generate dialogue across artistic, social, geographical, and political borders, sectors, and disciplines.

The Project
Over the next few years, Artists in a Global Society will work with artists, arts organizers, and academics to convene and document a series of dialogues and forums that explore the role of artists in local communities as well as the movement of artists across international borders. These pilot programs are designed to highlight local expression and context, to examine international influences, and to document the processes of exchange. The exchanges are in the spirit of reciprocity and ongoing engagement that will extend across communities into the future.

Pilot projects are currently taking place in Melbourne, Australia, and Cambodia.

At present, the Artists in a Global Society is advised by our Artist Council.
