Acme Artist Community, Chicago, ILUses of Space: Live-Work; Workspace/Studio, Gallery, Multi-Purpose Space
Acme Artists is a limited-equity development providing home ownership to artists and their families, and also several non-profit organizations. Acme provides office space to non-profit organizations including Chicago Community TV Network, NNWAC, and the Chicago Mutual Housing Network. It is the first live-work artist community in Chicago designed, managed and owned by its members. The project was developed through grassroots participation to achieve affordable, sustainable, energy efficient space well suited to the arts. (Case Study by LISC)
