Creative Communities Project

Greater Washington Creative Communities Fund*:

The Community Foundation for the National Capital Region (CFNCR) worked to create more effective mechanisms for networking, sharing information, and improving public understanding of the value of the arts. By leveraging philanthropic investments made by families, individuals, and corporate donors, CFNCR established the Creative Communities Fund to increase resources for the creation, development, and distribution of new works made by local artists. The centerpiece activity of the Fund was an awards program which distributed up to $150,000 annually to support collaborative projects among non-profit organizations and artists in the region. By providing this incentive to organizations, CFNCR fostered an increased commitment to individual artists. The Fund also served as a regional model for investment in artists and art making.

*This project is currently transitioning to the Cultural Development Corporation
