Creative Communities Project

To Market We Go:

Through the Montana Arts Council’s To Market We Go program, artists are provided tools to succeed in business. Working together with organizations across the Big Sky state, the program offers events, workshops, and opportunities for artists to improve marketing skills, develop greater business proficiency, and have access to existing markets. The Cohort Development program addresses the isolation of rural artists by forming regional networks in locations throughout the state. These networks provide learning opportunities such as mentorships, internships, studio-based work, self-directed learning, and potential online learning.

In 2009, MAC will expand its program to offer the Creative Capital Professional Development Program and the Art and the Law Workshops specifically to Native American artists in the state.  Each program is designed to reflect the specific needs of rural and Indian artists in Montana. In partnership with the Montana Indian Business Alliance (MIBA) artists are invited to a two-day Indian artists’ workshop in conjunction with the annual MIBA conference.  Expanded networks form through the art and business communities, while training workshops and a popular marketplace for the artists are also offered.

About Montana Arts Council

The Montana Arts Council (MAC) is an agency of state government established to develop the creative potential of all Montanans, advance education, spur economic vibrancy, and revitalize communities through involvement in the arts. The agency’s vision is that Montana will be known far and wide as "The Land of Creativity," where the arts are essential to the creativity, imagination, and entrepreneurship that make Big Sky Country the very best place on earth to live, learn, work, and play. On the whole, MAC’s goal is to support traditional and fine craft artists living in remote areas (reservations and rural towns) who make a living through their art.
