Center for Cultural Innovation

"The Center for Cultural Innovation (CCI) was launched in 2001 to promote knowledge sharing, networking and financial independence for individual artists and creative entrepreneurs by providing business training, grants and loans, and incubating innovative projects that create new program knowledge, tools and practices for artists in the field. CCI taps leading experts from both the nonprofit and commercial business sectors to develop next generation tools and support systems that artists need. Programs developed and incubated in California will be made available to other cities and communities nationally. Knowledge is power. Personal networks build community. And financial independence supports creative freedom. This is the Center for Cultural Innovation."

Business of Art
www.cciarts.org/workshops
Since its founding, Business of Art has developed new practices in career and business planning for artists, marketing and self-promotion, budgeting and financial management, and the funding environment for artists’ work. As a complement to the workshops, artists have access to counseling and coaching services from leaders with expertise in business, law, entertainment, and the arts. In April 2008, CCI released a companion Business of Art publication featuring chapters commissioned by local writers to make its training information more widely accessible. CCI has received $100,000 to deepen their work through publishing a customizable 2nd edition of the “Business of Art” textbook, delivering artist workshops in at least two new communities, enhancing their website, and piloting a “Help Desk” resource for workshop attendees.
