Intersection for the Arts

Intersection for the Arts, San Francisco's oldest alternative art space and a fixture in the Mission district of the city, will receive $50,000 over two years to support its effort to develop a new permanent home within an innovative urban campus that may become a model for public/private investment. The larger facility project of which Intersection is a part, known as "5M," is a cross-sector collaboration of urban planners, social entrepreneurs, real estate developers, policy makers and social justice community partners – truly an intersection of civic-minded stakeholders. Working with the Hearst Corporation and Forest City Development to adapt the historic 1920's home of the San Francisco Chronicle to changing times, Intersection for the Arts is part of a broader group of for-profit and non-profit businesses alike that will benefit from shared spaces, collective resources and joint programming while contributing to urban renewal. And while the move will shift the organization's location from its long-time Mission home, the Chronicle Building sits at the meeting point of several downtown San Francisco neighborhoods, allowing Intersection to continue to serve a diverse community of neighbors and artists.
