Dance Place
Known as the "hub of dance activity in Washington, DC," Dance Place has helped turn the city into a viable option for performing artists to live and work, and plays a significant role in the development of dance on the local and national level. As one of only two dance-focused presenters in the nation's capital, it provides a rare showcase for small and mid-sized companies, emerging groups and local artists. Through the Space for Change program, Dance Place will receive $100,000 over two years to plan the modernization and expansion of its longtime home to better meet the needs of its artists and audiences. Its vision for its 25-year-old facility includes new performance and rehearsal space, operating and technical system upgrades, and a façade renovation in keeping with the neighborhood streetscape. Further, in partnership with the adjacent Brookland Artspace Lofts, Dance Place plans to create an arts campus that includes a shared outdoor plaza and performance venue, an asset to the neighborhood's emerging art and education district and a welcome addition of green space. This collaboration will also expand housing options for Dance Place's visiting artists and interns.
