Eligibility

The Ford Foundation Space for Change Planning and Pre-Development Grants will be administered through an open call for entries. All applicants must meet baseline requirements in order to submit a Letter of Inquiry (LOI), but to determine whether your proposed facility project would make for a competitive application, please read the following eligibility requirements carefully. If after careful review of each RFP component (see menu at right) you need additional clarification, please contact LINC’s office at (646) 731-3275.

Basic Eligibility

All applicants must, at a minimum:

  • demonstrate a track record of excellence in their programming and artistic production

  • be 501(c) (3) organizations that directly serve both artists and communities

  • demonstrate strong community ties

  • have the fiscal and organizational capacity necessary to partner in or carry out a facility project

Competitive applicants will have the above qualifications as well as, but not limited to:

  • sound leadership that reflects the communities served by the facility and/or organization

  • cultural diversity at all levels of the organization’s work—from artists and constituencies served to programming to organizational leadership

  • an understanding of how the programming of the facility functions (or can function) in a way that is in partnership with and is responsible to community stakeholders, including organization constituents, artists, and community members

Types of Facilities

The strength of each project proposal will be evaluated on much more than the vision for a brick-and-mortar space. That said, examples of the wide range of facilities that would be eligible for support include:  work- and/or live-work spaces for artists; performance facilities; rehearsal spaces; gallery spaces; community arts and educational facilities; and any other type of spaces where artists work, where art works are made, or presented, or where educational activities associated with the arts and involving artists take place.
